Evren Tekinoktay’s exhibition inspired by Prince is one of the best visual experiences I had this year. Her collage paintings are full of small hidden and secret detail which you only discover if you keep looking into them… The exhibition is open until Friday 9th April, IMO, Ny Carlsbergvej 9, Copenhagen.

The understanding of a muse is no longer just a silent woman with a beautiful appearance being the favorite motif for painter… The muses have become essential for the designers’ identity. Like Andy Warhol had Edie Sedwick in the 60s most designers are today connected to a stylish or cool person who gives them personality and branding with a real face and not just a model in a picture. Think about Henry Holland vs Agyness Deyn, Sienna Miller vs Mathew Williamson, Sofia Coppola vs Marc Jacobs, Scarlett Johansson vs Stella McCartney etc. It seems that all creators are craving for a huming inspiration source - which indeed is much stronger than a glossy magazine!

She was born as Christa Päffgen in Cologne, grew up in West-Berlin. In the 50s she worked as a model all over the world, with base in Paris. She also appeared in Federico Fellini’s ‘La Dolce Vita’ . In 1960 she gave birth to a child (Ari Boulogne, son of Alain Delon) and met Robert Zimmermann (probably better known as Bob Dylan). In the late 60s Nico moved to New York where she became an essential member of the controversial Velvet underground band with roots in Andy Warhol’s famous ‘Factory’.

Here comes just a small preview…much more will follow!

Art can be emotional, beautiful, provocating, strange, thoughtful etc. If I should describe Danish Nadia Plesner’s art with one word I would say: INTELLIGENT! Drawing attention to the insignificant content in our news stream such as advertising, reality programs, consume and meaningless information about Paris Hilton’s jail trip, Nadia has created a painting with the contrast of a Louis Vuitton bag and the catastrophe area Darfur. The piece called Dafurnica has created a worldwide public debate, however she is now fined by 5000 EUR for each day she is showing the painting!!! Where is the artistic freedom? Where is the freedom of speech?
